Walter Fielding II (Tom Hanks) and Anna Crowley (Shelly Long) lose their apartment and have to find new housing. A crooked realtor sells them a million dollar mansion really cheap. After visiting the old lady who owns the place, touring the beautiful mansion, and listening to the tales of woe from the owner, they decide to buy the place. Almost from the moment they arrive things start to fall apart on it. The main staircase falls. The plumbing doesn't work. The electricity blows out. So the couple hires contractors who promise to have the house completely renovated in two weeks. Instead, they tear the place up even more, digging up the yard and completely making a mess of everything. Anna goes to her ex-husband, Max (Alexander Gudunov) to get money to help pay for all the renovations. He fools her into thinking she slept with him, so when Walter asks her, she says she did.
