A beautiful secretary, an empty briefcase, and a dead partner make for intrigue, romance and comedy in this 1984 film. Former partners, Lt. Speer, (Clint Eastwood) and ex-cop turned private eye Mike Murphy (Clint Eastwood), are former partners on the Kansas City police force. They now share an intense dislike of each other and a love for Murphy’s secretary Addy (Jane Alexander). The reluctantly reunite to investigate the death of Murphy’s partner Del Swift (Richard Roundtree). They discover that evil mob boss Primo Pitt (Rip Torn) and his gang of thugs are planning to take over the city. This causes the former friends and colleagues to join forces in their fight but their shared love of Addy may just get in the way....

Goofs:
Continuity: The doctor tells Lt. Speer that Ginny broke her arm when she was hit by the car. However, when she reappears at the end of the movie singing in the club, she is not wearing a cast or showing any sign of injury. (more)

Trivia:
Edwards hired Robert Davi to play the main villain after seeing him in "The Gangster Chronicles" (1981). But after Edwards left the project, Davi's role was reduced considerably. (more)
