Brassy prostitute Gus Marley (Sandra Locke) is a Federal witness in a Mafia trial. It is the responsibility of alcoholic cop Ben Shockley (Clint Eastwood) to get her from Las Vegas to Phoenix in one piece so that she can testify in court. Ben does not take much attention to Gus’s warnings that they in danger but soon figures out for himself that his superiors want Gus dead and they chose him for the job assuming that he would fail. It soon becomes clear that the duo have to be very selective in who they can trust as they embark on their perilous journey....
