Chief Inspector Lee (Jackie Chan) comes to America after the daughter of the Chinese consul, who is a close friend, is kidnapped. Upon arrival at the embassy the local FBI on the case have other plans for Inspector Lee. Thinking that they can rid themselves of him by calling on James Carter (Chris Tucker) a pompous, outrageous detective with the LAPD. Telling Carter that he is on a special mission to keep Lee out of the way doesn't jive well with him though and before long Lee and Carter have joined forces to try and solve the kidnapping. The mysterious Juntao (Tom Wilkinson) is behind the disappearance and Lee and Carter are quickly embroiled in both high stakes and comic hi-jinks in the race to save the consul's daughter and expose Juntao. Will they survive 'Rush Hour'?...

Goofs:
Miscellaneous: During the final battle, Chan's tuxedo suspenders change from x-back to y-back to x-back again. (more)

Trivia:
According to director Brett Ratner, during the scene at Grauman's where Detective Carter bribes Stucky for information, there was so much improvisation between Chris Tucker and John Hawkes that they almost didn't think they could edit it together as a coherent conversation. There are still continuity errors in the dialogue for this reason. (more)

Carter: What?
Lee: [enuciates] Camel's Hump
[Carter takes a bite of the eel while Lee eats his Camel's Hump]
Carter: Mmm! Kinda good. Needs a little Hot sauce, but it's kinda good though.
