"The Devil Wears Prada" tells the story of Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway). She has recently graduated from college with a degree in journalism and heads to New York City to find a job. She lands one, as the assistant of uberboss Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), the editor of a major fashion magazine. Andy is clueless about fashion and struggles to fit in the workplace. In addition, Miranda works her for hours and accomplish seemingly impossible tasks, like getting a copy of the final Harry Potter novel for her children. Andy starts to fit in at work and begins to like work but it leads her to miss important events with her boyfriend and other close friends....

Trivia:
Anna Wintour, the powerful Vogue editor on whom Streep's character was widely believed to be based in the novel (Weisberger once worked as her assistant), reportedly warned major fashion designers who had been invited to make cameo appearances as themselves in the film that they would be banished from the magazine's pages if they did so. Wintour's spokespeople deny this claim; however, it is notable that Vogue and other major women's and fashion magazines have avoided reviewing or even mentioning the book in their pages. (more)
