This is a story about a man Dutch Van Den Broeck (Harrison Ford) who loses his wife Peyton (Susanna Thompson) to a plane crash. While investigating the reason for the crash, he finds out that his wife was actually having an affair and was seated next to the man she was having an affair with when the plane crashed on the way to Miami. He wants to know why his wife was having an affair and goes to the widower of his wife's lover, Kay Chandler (Kristin Scott Thomas) to try to figure it out. At first she resist all of his invitations to get to the bottom of things but eventually she relents and they actually end up together....

Factual errors: There is no Parkway Lanes in Washington, DC. In fact, there is no Parkway Lanes in the metro Washington area. This bowling center does, in fact, exist and is located in Elmwood Park (Bergen County), NJ. The high scores of 300 and 858 posted over the lanes are real as well, and were rolled on 5 October 1998.
