On the legendary train that links the Far East and Europe, running from China and Mongolia to Russia, Roy (Woody Harrelson) and Jessie (Emily Mortimer) are going through a rocky patch. After a stay in Beijing the couple decides to try their relationship one last time. They discover that the days of the luxury on the Transsiberian’s rails have faded since the fall of the U. S.S. R. They are surrounded by cold steel carriages, introverted fellow passengers and drug traffickers. the company of a fellow western couple is their refuge. Carlos (Eduardo Noriega) and Abby (Kate Mara) travel giving language classes and re-selling Russian Matryoshka dolls. Roy and Jessie find themselves in the middle of the world of smuggling and drug trafficking....

Goofs:
Continuity: At one point in the movie Jessie is moving along the corridor of the train. A man with a freshly lit cigarette hanging from his lips is standing in the aisle as she approaches, as she passes him the camera pans back to the same guy who now has an almost finished cigarette in his mouth.
