Morrie (Matthew Perry) tries in vain to help his troublesome brother and sister and keep tham out of trouble. His younger brother Jay (Ben Foster) is homeless and depressed. Ida (Ginnifer Goodwin) his sister is an attention-seeking nymphomaniac, who makes a sporadic living as a photographer. Life is complicated by the fact that Morrie's wife Betty (Lauren Graham) has spent years accumulating enough money to have the baby she desperately wants. Morrie is struggling to keep things together for everybody, not helped by the fact that his siblings' behaviour causes him problems at work and in the community. Finally he comes to realise that he needs to consider himself and that anyone who really cares for him will support him rather than cause him problems....
