Joe Scott (Daniel Craig) is a self obsessed celebrity. He has a personal assistant (Eve) who does not waste her words, she throughout the movie is very blunt and says what is on her mind. When Joe Scott's childhood friend Boots (Max Deacon) dies he enters a long flashback to 70s era england and the town he was raised in. During the flasback we are introduced to two important relationships. The first is Ruth (Claire Forlani) the second is Evelyn (Jodhi May). Ruth is a fellow school friend and Evelyn is a friend of his mother's who tries to have a relationship with him. He left England because of Evelyn. After the flashback, Joe Scott returns to England to find that Ruth had married Boots, and is now all alone....
