"An extraordinary epic of the sea. A suspenseful and thrilling film..." -Gene Shalit, The Today Show

Harrison Ford delivers one of his most powerful performances in this riveting action-drama inspired by a true story.

At the height of the 1960's Cold War, Russia launches its flagship nuclear submarine, the K-19. In command is iron willed Captain Alexei Vostrikov (Ford). Also aboard is the popular executive officer Mikhail Polenin (Liam Neeson), who clashes with Vostrikov but shares his unwavering patriotism. As the K-19 heads toward American waters, a shocking discovery is made: the vessel's nuclear reactor system is leaking, imperiling the men and the sub's missiles. With time running out, the fearless Vostrikov and his crew join together as brave countrymen who must decide the true meaning of duty, honor and sacrifice....

Trivia:
Upon reading the film's script, the surviving crew members were so incensed that they sent an open letter to star Harrison Ford, producer/director Kathryn Bigelow and producers Christine Whitaker and Steven-Charles Jaffe, expressing their dismay. Among the less-than-credible details they objected to were profane language, the animosity between the two highest-ranking commanding officers, insubordination among the crew, drunk crew members, the attempted mutiny, the guns (which are kept under seal in a secret location) and the handcuffs (which were only used by and available to cops). Goofs:
Revealing mistakes: In the "fuel fire" on board, the gas jets actually fueling the fire can clearly be seen at the bottom of the frame. (more)

Quotes:
Captain Alexei Vostrikov: How are the men?
Dr. Savran: How would I know? I don't know the first thing about radiation sickness.
Captain Alexei Vostrikov: Please...
Dr. Savran: I'm giving them aspirin. And I'm trying to prevent those who are dying from irradiating those of us who still have some hope.
Captain Alexei Vostrikov: Pull yourself together. You're an officer in the Soviet Navy. Go back and tell them that they're improving. As you say, you know nothing about radiation sickness. Perhaps they are.
